Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur
  • 3/4 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce blackberry simple syrup (recipe below)
  • lime wedge and coarse salt for rimming the glass
  • blackberries, for garnish

Blackberry Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Instructions

Make the simple syrup

  • Combine all simple syrup ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  • Once the water starts to steam, mash the blackberries. It's ok if you can't completely pulverize them just yet, they're still heating up.
  • Simmer the mixture until all sugar has dissolved. Mash the rest of the blackberries. Remove from heat. Let sit for 10 minutes then strain through a fine mesh strainer. Store in an air tight container.

Make the margaritas

  • Cut a small slit in the middle of the lime wedge and run it along the rim of your glass. Coat the rim in coarse salt. Put 4 ice cubes in the glass.
  • In a cocktail shaker with a few ice cubes, combine all the margarita ingredients. Shake for 15 seconds and pour through a strainer into the glass.
  • Fit the lime wedge onto the rim of the glass and throw in some blackberries.
